Job Description

To arrange, supervise and/or attend to and report on Minerals operational matters in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, International Standards, Company Code of Ethics and the mandate given by the Principal. Also, to assist in the implementation and maintenance of a Quality Management System

  • To ensure that senior samplers and samplers attend to inspection operations of Mineral cargoes in accordance with International Standards and Company Q.A. policies and mandate given by the principal.  To ensure that senior samplers and samplers carry out and/or supervise all weighing and operations if required by the mandate, including submittal of samples with sample submission forms.  To ensure compliance with all the requirements of the Inspection order  Keep branch manager informed regarding progress and/or non conformance  Provide feedback of operational issues during Operations Meetings  Perform spot checks on activities during operations to ensure procedures are being adhered to. Report all deviations to branch manager.  Monitor and supervise sampling operations and keep records of field visits.  Perform quality checks in the Sample Prep department. Rectify deficiencies and report to branch manager.  Provide continuous monitoring and training of sampling and sample preparation. Problem areas to be identifies, recorded and circulated to management.  Usage of company vehicles to be monitored and reduced where possible.  Liaise with clients and agents daily regarding pertinent details and information relating to loading operations to ensure sampling efforts are in time  Attend port meetings and vessel pre-plan meetings for nominated vessels.  Sample collection at South African / Swaziland border.  Keep labour in control and submit time sheets at month end  Keep overtime work to a minimum through careful planning.  Monitor workload and shift numbers to be shuffled to ensure optimum productivity.  To ensure that all sick leave and leave applications are submitted in time.  To identify and report al sick leave abuse trends.  Liaise with the Admin Co-Ordinator in ensuring efficient operations and optimum utilization of Inspection / QA Services.  Adhere to and maintain relevant parts in the Quality Policies of the Division.  Assist in continuously upgrading the quality of services offered, in support of “Customer Services” policy and minimize client complaints and claims.  Assist in the training, coaching and counselling of employees in conjunction with the branch manager to ensure continuity of competencies to underpin the growth strategies of the Minerals Division.  To ensure compliance with all the requirements of the client and Port regulations.  Keep branch manager informed regarding progress and/or nonconformance. Uncontrolled document without signatures PF-(RZA)-[GEN]HR-031 02/21  Liaise with the Admin Co-Ordinator in all respects of documentation requested and relevant reporting  Submit expense sheets at month end.  Liaise with the different Managerial role players in ensuring efficient operations.  Adhere to and maintain relevant parts of the Quality Policies of the Division.  Assist in continuously upgrading the quality services offered, in support of “Customer Services” policy and minimize client complaints and claims.  Assist the branch manager with any inspection work other than described above, whenever required.  To ensure the integrity of samples is always maintained.  Ensure that all procedures are followed.  Assist in the disposal of excess material.  Assist with tasks such as sampling, sample preparation, analysis and admin when not busy.  Ensure equipment is maintained and register is updated accordingly  Ensure that all SGS equipment is respected and maintained in good working order.  Adhere to reasonable instructions, not covered by the above, as issued by the branch manager.  Carry out all such reasonable or lawful functions and duties as are from time to time assigned to you, in a proper and diligent manner.  Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS Management system  To continuously update Risk and Hazard Assessments of all operational tasks.  To ensure Sr. Samplers have daily Toolbox Talks at the start of the shift.
Qualifications

Matric / Grade 12 with Maths and Science

  • Supervisor experience minimum of 5 years  Sampling and theory and practice  Good communication and interpersonal skills  Computer literacy and typing skills – Word and Excel  Calculation capability  Valid passport an advantage  Knowledge of sample prep equipment.  Language: Proficiency in English (Read, Speak, Write)  Any other languages will be an added advantage  Valid RSA Driver’s license
